I'm torn between being supportive of her decision because she says that it's something she really wants to do, being honest and telling her that she's selling herself short, or being quiet because it really isn't any of my business. I'll probably just shut up about it and if asked, be happy for her. Hopefully she changes her mind though. And if there are any beauty school graduates who read this, I mean no offense.
Dear Teen Me by Britt Leigh
This is from a website called Dear Teen Me where writers write letters to their teen selves. It's a great site and there are a bunch of entries. Some of the letters are hilarious, some are poignant, and some are pretty meh. I picked one of my favorites that I think students would enjoy.

Leigh is very specific with her letter, including details for her teen self but not too many. She has nice things to say about the future and a few wonderful lines like, "You will never be 100 percent happy about your body or your face or your hair." Who is??

All of these letters are to teens everywhere. And hey! I teach teens! Some of these may come in handy! If taking a strictly academic approach to these letters, then I wouldn't recommend them, but if teaching the whole person and not just the English student, these are pretty much fantastic. Also, there are so many of the letters that you can find one that fits just about any situation.
