Kids who Died at My High School This Year by Elisabeth Cohen Conjunctions Issue 36
In my AP class I covered satire a couple weeks ago and this story is close. It's more of a dark comedy, but satirical in parts. It basically just lists all the kids who die during the school year at the author's high school. It sounds morbid but it is done in a very funny way. For example, in the assembly announcing one of the deaths, they show videos on AIDS awareness to the few remaining kids who don't need to go see a counselor (from the counseling team the school "has on retainer"). Funny, demented stuff.

This is a funny story. There are just a lot of little snide remarks that crack me up. After each student dies the principal always says that they were an Honor Student. Just little things like that>

I think that kids would like it and I think that it would be a nice piece when dealing with satire or dark comedy. I just worry about the topic and some student in another class hearing about it out of context and being offended. Or what if a student actually did die in the school while your class was reading this piece? Horrible. I remember being in seventh grade shop class and spending almost a month making a miniature wood coffin. It was 12" by 18" and was pretty good craftsmanship, especially considering that I am not particularly gifted in that arena. Anyway, the day before it was due my shop teacher's best friend and co-worker died in a car wreck. Not only did I get a horrible grade, I also became the guy with no class.
