Free advice for making the most of high-school years by Craig Smith
Craig Smith (or Sideline Smitty) was a columnist for The Seattle Times for years until he retired in 2008. This column is exactly what it sounds like: an advice column for high school students. It's a quick and short list of 17 things that are pretty much golden. He spent a lot of time in his career around high school athletes (and high schools) so he's qualified to impart advice. It's not like he's a politician making decisions about education without ever setting foot inside of a school or anything.

Sigh. I miss his writing. This is a straightforward one but some of his old columns were very poignant and brought forth the humanity in athletics. But this one is excellent.
