So I used to have this blog where I updated daily and reviewed essays and stories and maybe vented a bit or described my day and eventually I quit writing in it. It was a pretty large undertaking to do it each day and then when that stopped, I felt guilty so I didn't hardly update it until I just stopped altogether. Then this year while teaching my AP junior English class, I had them set up their own blogs and write a bit. The results were mostly good. Some kids really enjoyed it and some didn't which is par for the course with most assignments. Having them blog was good for me but it didn't motivate me to start mine up again until now. I'm going to have my students next year make their own blogs and they'll pair with a high school in San Antonio to read each other's which should be cool. I thought it'd be good if I started mine back up again although I'm not going to make myself post every day. But I will shoot for a couple times a week. Or maybe more. Maybe less. Maybe I'll review essays/stories again. Maybe not. Maybe I'll talk about what's going on in my life. Maybe I'll post some of my own writings. Maybe I'll spotlight some student work. Maybe I'll write about education and how it could be better. Maybe I'll just post cute pictures of my daughter.
My goal: I will read a short story, essay, or piece of longform journalism each day this year and write about it. I'll review the piece and then evaluate it for classroom teaching purposes. Then once a month, maybe/perhaps, I will post my own essay on something in the educational field.
I consider myself to be a very average, run-of-the-mill teacher who can share some of my experiences and opinions.
